"Jenny"

PICTURE EDITOR/SOUND EDITOR/ANIMATION/STILL PHOTOGRAPHY

For the main title sequence for "Jenny," I tried to visually illustrate Jenny's childhood, prompted by a conversation we hear on the soundtrack of Jenny talking with her psychologist.

To achieve this I first shot b&w and color stills of Michelle Lau -- who portrayed Jenny as a child -- and Greg Lau, who played her father. I then pasted those pictures into an old photo album, had my mother letter the captions with white ink, and then animated the pictures and album pages, building in dissolves, superimpositions and camera moves. (Only two dissolves were done in the editing room -- everything else was created by backwinding the camera, and varying the shutter and lens on a Bolex/J-K animation stand at the University of Bridgeport, during a single all-night shoot.)
